Other projects

In addition to all the major projects listed on the main page, I have also either organised, managed or helped deliver a range of projects including

Parliament | Museums at Night
Programmed the music for the Rights and Rebels Museums at Night event at Westminster in October 2016.
This included providing all production to enable a performance in Westminster Hall from Nancy Kerr, Greg Russell & Tim Yates, and was a 'taste of the Shake the Chains' commission.

BBC Performing Arts Fellowship
Funded by and in partnership with the BBC, I have managed and delivered two BBC Performing Arts Fellowships for EFDSS with Maz O'Connor and Rosie Hood.

Working closely with the artists over a whole year, these fellowships allow the artist to develop their skills and experiences to support their professional development.

Activities included mentoring, showcases, international development, professional support and more.

UK Market Development
Working both formally and informally with artists from the UK and North America, I work with artists and their teams to work on opportunities and strategies for career and audience development.  In the Autumn of 2018 I am working with Canadian band Bon Débarras on their first visit to the UK.

I have developed and delivered four large scale residentials for groups of artists, each covering a different aspect of professional development

2014 - a group of 25 emerging artists on a business and creative retreat of 4 days, with a range of speakers, artists and elements of how to develop and sustain a professional career

2015 -  a second group of 25 young artists on a 3-day songwriting retreat lead by experienced writers Steve Knightley, Nancy Kerr and Oh Susanna, and concentrated on the mechanics of being a professional songwriter

2016 - a group of 20 artists including 2 North Americans who were invited to a writing retreat. The 3-days was mostly artist lead, but with structure to encourage deadlines and co-writing.

2017 - a group of 20 artists put together for 3-days to network, write, and share experiences of life as an artist; aim to broaden networks and connections.  This was a pilot for future work.

Artists' Development
Five years as national artists' development manager for EFDSS, working with artists at all points on their professional careers to help identify, create and make the most of professional opportunities.

2018 - delivering bespoke artist training days for Welsh artists on 'Touring, gigging & developing your audiences' & 'Building Your Team'

Showcase Preparation
Having attended over 25 trade fairs and events around the world, I have experience of working directly with over 40 artists who have showcased at significant industry conferences in the UK, North America, and Europe.

I helped them prepare for the rigours of showcasing at trade events through formal and organised group training sessions, one-to-one advice and support, and finding suitable industry professionals and mentors where appropriate.

Performance Development
As an extension of the work on the Apsire Project with Paul Hamlyn Foundation, and as a direct response to artistic need, I organised and managed a two-day performance development residential for 22 emerging artists.

Working with theatre professionals and experienced artists to explore a range of elements including confidence on stage, performance techniques and dealing with problems in the live setting.  This was supported by Help Musicians.

National Trust Programming
Programmed and organised production for events at William Morris' Red House and also at Sutton House, Hackney
Programmed the folk element for the official Magna Carta 800th Anniversary event at Runnymede, 'Magna Carta Foundation of Liberty', 15th June 2015

The Full English Band
As part of the major EFDSS project, I approached Fay Hield and invited her to take on the commission of selecting songs from the upcoming Full English archive to perform at the launch of the archive. Fay took the idea and created the multi BBC Folk Award winning collaboration, album and live show.

Schools Projects
For Shrewsbury Folk Festival I organised, managed and delivered 4 years of week long artist project in local primary schools.

As part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project that focused on traditional song and dance, between 2008 and 2011 I worked with

The Demon Barbers

Each band spent a week in a primary school looking at traditional music and dance with the students, culminating in a formal concert performance on the final evening at the 600 seat Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury (the 422 show was held in school, before the Theatre Severn was built).
